KIPP TRUTH Academy

The Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP), is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. There are currently 99 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia serving more than 27,000 students.

The mission of KIPP Dallas-Fort Worth (KIPP DFW) is to provide underserved children in our community with a free, rigorous, high quality education that offers the knowledge, skills and character traits necessary to thrive in school, college and the competitive world beyond. KIPP DFW will build on the success of its pioneer school, KIPP TRUTH Academy, a high-performing open enrollment public charter school that is located in historically under-resourced South Dallas.

KIPP through College

The KIPP through College program is committed to ensuring that students promoted from KIPP TRUTH Academy have the tools and support to continue on a successful path to and through college and beyond.

One-third, or 33 percent, of KIPP students across the country who completed the eighth grade at KIPP ten or more years ago have graduated from a four-year college. This compares to 30.6 percent of all Americans between the ages of 25 adn 29 who have earned a four-year degree, and the 8 percent of young adults from low-income families who have done so.

89 percent of KIPP students across the country who completed a KIPP middle school five or more years ago have matriculated to college. By comparison, 62 percent of students nationwide and 41 percent of low-income students enroll in college for a two- or four-year degree. KIPP students are entering college at more than double the national average for comparable students.

This is an achievement to celebrate. Our data, which are based on the performance of our first groups of students, show that a child's family circumstances does not have to determine his or her destiny. With the right resources, help, and support, KIPP students can and do finish college, earning themselves access to greater career choices and opportunities.
